    Why here

The car-free island where every arrival worth making is made by sea

    01

There is no road — and that is the point

Spetses banned private cars long ago: locals move by scooter, horse-drawn carriage and, above all, by boat. There is no airport and no car ferry worth planning around. A private water taxi is not a luxury alternative here — it is the island's native way of arriving, only with a closed cabin, your own schedule and no queue at the Dapia steps.

    02

    Skip the Kosta–Piraeus relay

The classic overland route means a shuttle boat to Kosta on the mainland, a long taxi across the Argolid, then the coastal traffic into Athens. A direct fast boat from the Dapia quay to the Astir Marina on the Athens Riviera replaces that whole relay with a single crossing past Hydra and the Saronic islands — luggage loaded once, in a little over two hours.

    03

The Cyclades without the ferry timetable

From Spetses, Sifnos and Milos sit straight across the Myrtoan Sea — but scheduled connections force a detour through Piraeus. A private crossing leaves when you decide, turns a full travel day into an open-sea run of under three hours to Sifnos, a little more to Milos, and lands you at the port you actually asked for.

    • Dapia harbour — the historic water-taxi quay by the cannons, in the heart of Spetses Town, where boats wait in rotation at the steps
    • Old Harbour (Baltiza) — the sheltered yacht and fishing-boat basin at the eastern end of town, with its traditional wooden shipyards
    • Kosta pier (mainland) — the landing directly opposite the island, convenient for guests arriving by car from the Peloponnese

    FAQ

    Useful to know.

The standard meeting point is the water-taxi quay at Dapia harbour, by the cannons in the centre of Spetses Town — the same steps the local sea taxis have used for generations. If you are staying near the Old Harbour (Baltiza) or along the Kounoupitsa seafront, pickup can usually be arranged from the nearest usable quay; your skipper confirms the exact spot the day before.

Yes, and by a wide margin door-to-door. The road option means a shuttle to Kosta, a taxi of several hours around the Argolic Gulf and the approach traffic into Athens. A direct fast boat from Dapia to the Astir Marina on the Athens Riviera takes a little over two hours, with your luggage loaded once and no changes.

Prices shown are indicative 'from' rates for the whole boat, not per person, for a closed-cabin vessel carrying up to about 10 guests. The final quote depends on date, schedule, sea conditions and any extras such as waiting time on a multi-stop day. You receive a fixed all-in price before confirming — no meter, no surprises.

Spetses sits at the mouth of the Argolic Gulf, in waters noticeably gentler than the open Cyclades — the summer meltemi is felt mostly as a fresh afternoon breeze. Short hops to Hydra or the mainland run in almost any summer weather; for open-sea crossings to Sifnos or Milos your skipper watches the forecast and may shift departure by a few hours for comfort. Rebooking or refund applies if a trip must be cancelled for safety.

Absolutely — but book early. During the Armata, held on the weekend nearest 8 September and culminating in the burning of the flagship replica off Dapia, and during the Classic Yacht Regatta in late June, the harbour is at its busiest of the year and evening transfers back to the mainland or Hydra are in high demand.
