    Why here

    01

The A50 stops where the sea begins

By road, reaching Bandol, La Ciotat or Cassis from Toulon means the A50 motorway and its summer bottlenecks around Ollioules and the Cap Sicié hinterland. By sea you clear the harbour entrance and run straight along the coast — no toll, no roundabouts, and a view of the cliffs of Cap Sicié that drivers never get.

    02

The whole îles d'Or archipelago, not just Porquerolles

Public access to Porquerolles funnels everyone to the shuttle pier at La Tour Fondue on the Giens peninsula — parking, queueing, fixed timetables. A private water taxi leaves from central Toulon when you decide and drops you at the island harbour. The same run reaches deeper into the îles d'Or — Port-Cros and its marine reserve, or the wilder Île du Levant — whenever you want more than Porquerolles.

    03

A departure point that is a sight in itself

Few transfers begin inside France's premier naval harbour. Leaving the Vieille Darse, you pass the grey silhouettes of the national fleet, the Saint-Mandrier peninsula and the forts that guard the channel — a send-off no taxi rank on a motorway slip road will ever match.

    • L'Eautel Toulon Port — hotel facing the harbour, a short walk from the Vieille Darse pontoons
    • Hôtel La Corniche — Mourillon seafront, right by Port Saint-Louis for a near door-to-boat pick-up
    • Grand Hôtel des Sablettes-Plage — Belle Époque address across the bay at Les Sablettes; boarding is arranged from a nearby harbour rather than the beach itself
    Public piers
    • Vieille Darse marina — visitors' pontoons by Quai Cronstadt, in front of the old town
    • Darse Nord du Mourillon marina, between the commercial port and the Mourillon district
    • Port Saint-Louis du Mourillon, the small harbour beside the Mourillon beaches

    FAQ

    Useful to know.

The usual meeting point is the Vieille Darse marina, on the visitors' pontoons just off Quai Cronstadt — the lively quay lined with café terraces in front of the old town. If you are staying in the Mourillon district, boarding can often be arranged at Port Saint-Louis du Mourillon instead. Your confirmation always includes the precise pontoon and a pin.

For Porquerolles, clearly. By road you must drive around the rade to the Giens peninsula, park at La Tour Fondue and wait for the public shuttle. The water taxi leaves central Toulon and berths at Porquerolles harbour in about 45 minutes, on your schedule — and the return time is yours to set.

Prices are indicative and shown from a starting fare: from around €320–€390 for nearby runs such as Bandol, Hyères or Porquerolles, and from about €450–€520 for La Ciotat or Cassis. The boat is fully private for your group of up to around ten passengers, so the fare is per boat, not per person.

The petite rade of Toulon is remarkably sheltered, but outside the harbour the mistral accelerates around Cap Sicié and an east wind can raise a chop toward Hyères. Skippers monitor the forecast; if conditions are unsafe they will propose an earlier or later slot, an alternative harbour, or a free rebooking. Closed cabins keep a moderate sea comfortable.

Yes, within the rules. The rade is a working naval base with regulated zones and speed limits close to military installations, so your skipper keeps the required distances — but the passage still gives you front-row views of the fleet, the Saint-Mandrier peninsula and the coastal forts before opening up to sea.
