    Why here

    01

The road to Cassis is a funnel, the sea is not

Cassis sits at the bottom of a bowl: everything arrives by the Col de la Gineste or the narrow Avenue de l'Arène down into the centre, and in July and August the descent into town backs up while the port car parks fill by mid-morning. From the water you skip the whole approach — the boat comes alongside the quay and you step off in the middle of the village, luggage included.

    02

Marseille and La Ciotat are neighbours by sea, detours by land

The Calanques massif and Cap Canaille force the road inland in a long arc. By boat the same coast is a straight line past Port-Miou, Port-Pin, En-Vau and the Bec de l'Aigle. La Ciotat is a short hop. For Marseille the crossing itself is comparable to the drive on a clear day, but door to door the boat usually wins: no Gineste queue, no ring road, no parking hunt, and you land in the city rather than on its edge.

    03

You see the Calanques the way they were meant to be seen

The cliffs of Cap Canaille, among the highest sea cliffs in France, and the white limestone inlets of the National Park only reveal themselves from the water. A transfer here doubles as the coastal run visitors normally pay for separately, with a skipper who works to the park's mooring rules as they stand that season.

    Partner palaces
    • Les Roches Blanches, on the Avenue des Calanques above the bay — the concierge arranges tenders and private transfers; guests are met at the port quays, a few minutes away
    • Hôtel de la Plage Mahogany, on the Plage du Bestouan, a short walk from the port quays
    • Hôtel Le Golfe, on the port front itself, with the boarding quays directly outside
    • Château de Cassis, on the headland overlooking the harbour, with drop-off arranged down at the port
    Public piers
    • Quai Saint-Pierre — the main village-side quay of the old port, the usual pick-up point
    • Quai Jean-Jacques Barthélémy — the café and restaurant frontage, easy for luggage
    • Quai des Baux — quieter, useful when the port front is crowded in season
    • Quai des Moulins — harbourmaster's office side, for administrative questions and berthing
    • Calanque de Port-Miou — visitor pontoons just west of town, for pick-ups at the edge of the National Park

    FAQ

    Useful to know.

On the quays of the old port — usually Quai Saint-Pierre or Quai Jean-Jacques Barthélémy, right in front of the cafés. The skipper sends the precise spot and a pin the day before, because the port front is pedestrianised in season and the drop-off point for cars changes. If you are staying at Les Roches Blanches on the Avenue des Calanques, or on the Bestouan side, we can meet you at the hotel and walk you down.

For La Ciotat, yes in practice: the road climbs the Route des Crêtes or swings inland via the RD559, while the boat runs straight past the Bec de l'Aigle. For Marseille the crossing itself is roughly on a par with a clear-road drive, so the honest answer is door to door: no Col de la Gineste queue, no city ring road, no parking hunt, and you land in Marseille rather than on its outskirts. In August the gap widens a lot.

Prices are per boat, not per person, so a family or a group of eight pays the same as a couple. The indicative figures shown are starting points for a one-way private transfer with skipper and fuel; night crossings, waiting time on site, or a detour along the Calanques are quoted separately. You get a firm price before booking, never a meter.

The mistral funnels down from the northwest and can gust hard off Cap Canaille, and a southeasterly swell makes the bay of Cassis uncomfortable. The skipper checks the forecast the evening before and again on the morning of departure. If conditions are not right the crossing is moved or cancelled with a full refund — we do not sail a transfer we would not take ourselves.

Yes. Cassis to the Calanque de Port-Miou is a route in its own right in our price list, a few minutes from the old port, and a slow pass in front of Port-Miou, Port-Pin and En-Vau can be added to any westbound transfer for a quoted supplement. Anchoring is restricted or forbidden in several of these inlets under the National Park order in force, and vessel size limits apply, so the skipper confirms with the harbourmaster's office what is possible on the day rather than promising a swim stop that cannot happen.
