    Persian Gulf · Qatar

Old Doha. The historic city meets the sea.

The wooden dhows lined up at the Dhow Harbour, the Museum of Islamic Art rising on its own peninsula, the pastel façades of the reborn Mina District — this is the soul of Doha, on the water. From the old port you reach the modern skyline of West Bay and The Pearl without touching the downtown traffic. The Gulf is calm October-April; the 45°C+ summer means dawn and dusk transfers.

    Why here

Old Doha by dhow, the Museum of Islamic Art by water, West Bay without the traffic.

Old Doha Port (the Mina District) is the city's historic trading port, reborn as a leisure and culture destination at the southern end of the Corniche. The Dhow Harbour, where wooden boutres still moor, sits directly in front of the Museum of Islamic Art and its peninsula, with Souq Waqif a short walk away. By water, the historic core connects to the modern West Bay and The Pearl skyline without crossing downtown traffic. The Gulf here is calm and shallow; summer heat of 45°C+ limits comfortable boating to dawn and dusk.

    01

The dhows and the Dhow Harbour — Doha's living heritage.

The Dhow Harbour in front of the Museum of Islamic Art still moors the wooden boutres that built Qatar's pearling and trading economy. Boarding a water taxi here, among the traditional craft, is the most authentic way to read the city: the old fishing and trading port, restored and alive, with the MIA on its peninsula a few minutes away.

    02

Old Doha to the modern waterfront — skip the downtown traffic.

Souq Waqif, the Museum of Islamic Art and the historic core sit at the southern end of the Corniche; West Bay, The Pearl and Lusail are at the northern end. By road the bay-front is a slow, congested arc. By water taxi from Old Doha Port, West Bay is 10 minutes and The Pearl 20 — straight across the bay, no traffic.

    03

The reborn Mina District — colour, seafood and waterfront dining.

The Mina District is the old port rebuilt as a leisure quarter: pastel façades, boutiques, a redesigned fish market and waterfront restaurants. Arrive by boat, dock at the Mina District quay, and walk straight into dinner on the water — then a short hop to Souq Waqif for spices, falcons and the old town at night.

    FAQ

    Useful to know.

Our water taxis are modern, fast tenders for transfers between Old Doha Port and the bay. The wooden dhows (boutres) moored at the Dhow Harbour are the heritage backdrop — we can also arrange a traditional dhow charter for a slower, scenic cruise past the Corniche and the Museum of Islamic Art if you prefer the classic experience.

Yes. Souq Waqif and the Museum of Islamic Art sit together at the historic southern end of the Corniche, beside Old Doha Port. We pick up at the Mina District quay or the Dhow Harbour right by the MIA — a 5-minute hop to the museum's own peninsula, then walking distance to the souk.

The Corniche road wraps the whole bay, and downtown Doha traffic is heavy. From Old Doha Port to West Bay by car you arc around the bay through congestion; by water taxi it is a straight 10-minute crossing. To The Pearl it is 20 minutes by water versus a much longer drive at peak times.

We board at the Mina District quay inside Old Doha Port, or at the Dhow Harbour in front of the Museum of Islamic Art. Both are a few minutes from Souq Waqif and the historic centre. We confirm the exact pier and meeting point when you book.

October to April — calm Gulf waters and comfortable temperatures. Summer (May-September) reaches 45°C+, so we run dawn and dusk transfers only. The cool season is also when the Mina District events and the Souq Waqif festivals take place.
